As part of the high school’s major revitalisation (phase 1 of 5), the existing swimming pool was converted into a gymnasium.
The overall concept places students at the center of attention, while building on the notion of educational success, which focuses on ventilation, natural light, biophilia, and temperature control.
A simple, permeable volume illustrates the architectural character of the new gymnasium. Its abundant windows allow for generous natural light while offering a view of nature. This transparency also serves as an invitation to the outdoors. A strong visual link between the gymnasium and the sports fields is thus created, allowing students to take ownership of the space. In order to control the amount of light entering the gymnasium, a perforated envelope similar to a second skin was developed. This screen provides the appropriate quality of light for sports activities taking place in the gymnasium.
